The history of the diagnosis of IBS up through the establishment of the ROME III criteria is given in an article titled "The Road to Rome". It was published in the April 2006 issue of Gastroenterology mentioned in the library

The author, W. Grant Thompson, was chairman of the committee that established the original ROME criteria.

The article is available on the Internet. It appears in two different versions. An early 1999 version in the journal GUT and the later version the journal Gastroenterology.
