I was diagnosed 3 years ago. I had mono in Oct. 1999, and my throat almost closed up, so they put me on steroids for about a week. I gained 30 pounds---those things make you gain weight, even if you don't eat anything! After the mono cleared up, I had a lot of stomach problems, and in February 2000, after a ton of tests, my doc diagnosed me with IBS. He said it was a side effect from the steroids. But I think also it was b/c I had a very unhealthy diet all those years, and ate TONS of dairy all the time! I practically lived on cheese samiches!
Maybe it happened due to attending the school of hard knocks! I've been thru A LOT of crap that I never wanna go thru again. I get attacks when I'm stressed tho. But around the time I was diagnosed with IBS, I was in a very good relationship (still in it, 4 years later). I mean, a year before that I was in an abusive relationship. I didn't have IBS back then. I think it's different for everyone. I think it was everything in my life, finally caught up to me, ya know?
Anyways, the important thing is that it's a lot better now! My IBS and my life!
