Although laxatives are dangerous, I'm not thinking that taking one *once* could possibly cause that kind of lasting damage. If you have a history of using them, however, it's entirely possible. I would definitely go see your doctor again. IBS can go through cycles of better and worse, but new symptoms, steadily worsening, just doesn't sound like a good sign to me.
