I have suffered for years with IBS. Just recently I had surgery to remove scar tissue and adhesions from a bad delivery six years ago and it was found that I have Interstistial Cystis a.k.a Painful Bladder Syndrome. It acts like a urinary tract infection, but it isnt. Before my surgery, I told my doctor of my IBS symptoms along with pain in my bladder and urgency, but never being diagnosed with a urinary tract infection (at least not by her, but by countless other doctors). She automatically said to me that it sounds as if I have this intrastistial cystis(not sure of the spelling). She says that IC and IBS run together like twins. She also said that you can visit 10 doctors in 7 years and they all will diagnose this disease wrong. Since I have been on my medication, I have not had any IBS issues. I had pizza and lasagna and did not get sick!! Of course I drank over the holiday weekend and I did get sick. With this disease comes a whole new diet. No tomatoes or tomato sauce! What! I wasnt too happy about that, I love spaghetti, not to mention the pizza I slopped up. But the alcohol made my stomach hurt. If any of you have any IC symptoms, ask your doctor about seeing a urologist or maybe ask if they have heard of it. It has only been studied and discovered in the past 20 years so docs dont know too much about it, or what causes it and oh yeah, there is no cure.
