I have the same thing, so I take Nexium for it, even though the burning isn't in my esophogus (it really works!). The reason for the burning I get right below my ribs is because the tube that connects my stomach to my small intestine is extremely small and fragile (not enough fat there), which makes it collapes sometimes. For my case, it's nothing serious (from what my doc said), but I would have it checked out just in case. I hope this helps!
