Irritable Bowel Syndrome Message Boards

I am currently in the process of weaning myself off of my anti-depressant. My doc had prescribed it to help with the IBS. I was taking 100mg of nortryptline every day. It did help stablize me, but I just cant take the dry mouth and heart burn that it causes anymore. I went down to 75mg for a couple of weeks. Last week I switched down to 50mg. My dry mouth and heartburn have been so much better, but I am afraid that I knocked myself back into IBS irregularity. I haven't had a normal BM since I went to 50mg, and the few that I have had have not really been anything substantial. I'm pretty C. I really do not want to go back up on the AD if I don't have to. Does anyone have any ideas about something else that I could maybe do to help me? Would upping my acacia help any? I already take 18grams of acacia a day - and I think that is on the high side....

Just looking to see if anyone has any advise. I do not go back to my GI doc for a little over a month. And to be honest - he has been all gungho with weaning me off the ADs anyway...
