My IBS seems to be sensitive both to what I eat and to how much stress there is in my life. The more I eat IBS-safe, the more stress my tummy can take. The less stress my tummy is under, the more I can eat food that isn't so IBS-safe - within limits! So I'd say if your stress levels fall, you might be better able to tolerate a wider range of foods, but I certainly don't think stress reduction is the whole answer to IBS.
I think of IBS as being kind of like an allergy. If you're allergic to cats you can avoid sneezing, sniffling, and watery eyes by giving up your beloved kitty, but that doesn't mean you stop being allergic to cats. So it is with IBS: if I avoid dangerous foods and manage stress, my IBS symptoms don't flare up, but it doesn't mean my IBS is gone.
