Hey Beth, you know I'm a long timer on Miralax. Its been 5-6 years now. The electrolyte thing is that it can SOMETIMES cause D, which can make you dehydrated and through things off. So, I wouldn't worry there. As far as the thin, mushy stools, well yeah, I usually have that also. Once in a while, I'll have a regular "log" if you will but most of the time, its mushy. Its not unusual for me to go potty 2-3 times in the morning. But, then again, I also have days that I don't go at all! If your not eating a lot of food, you just may not need to poop everyday! As far as the dependency thing, I don't think that everybody WILL become dependant on it but yes, it is a possibility. I figure my colon obviously doesn't function properly to begin with so if it needs help for life, ok, so be it. I also have a chemical imbalance and depression and will probably be on anti-depressants the rest of my life, despite counseling and everything else. Sure, I'd rather not take these dr's and yes, all drugs have some sort of side effect but I look at it as the lesser of two evils.
Bloating and gas are a part of IBS. I can't say mine is any better or any worse since starting the miralax. I did try to stop it a couple of times over the years and those symptoms did not improve either. So, I figure I'd rather take it everyday, probably for life and not be constipated all the time. ALL the million dr's I've seen over the last few years have all said its fine to take, Its even safe to take while pregnant so thats got to tell you its pretty safe!
