IBS and pregnancy...

Dear Forum,

I found this site last week (posted this on the wrong forum!!!). Last week was terrible for me, lots of pain, constipation and vomiting... First of all, I'd like to thank all the people that take care of this website. After I started having my symptoms again last week (mostly pain after eating, constipation and vomiting), I thought I'd make myself a nice chicken soup (something mom's tend to do in Mexico to fix stomach problems). Of course, it was a complete disaster!!! Things were much worse, I got more pain, and I just didn't know what I could eat. After I read this website, I decided to put some white rice on my chicken soup (as I had made plenty to last for several days), and started eating the rice, followed by some of the potatoes and carrots that were swimming around, followed by the broccoli. I had to skip the chicken as it felt wrong when I took a bite of it... I didn't get pain or anything, and my constipation seems to have gotten better already!!! I've been following the very simple "how you eat" advice that I found on this website (like eating WSF before non-WSF, and so on), and I haven't had many problems since... The last couple of days I've eaten much more food than the last three months!!!

Now the story:

I started with IBS symptoms when I was about 8, and I was also hospitalized twice due to dehydration and severe constipation a couple of years later. Althogh doctors didn't say it was IBS, I'm pretty sure it was!!! I wasn't diagnosed until I was about 20 or so...

I've always been underweight, but 5 years ago I moved to the UK to study, so my diet changed dramatically, I gained weight almost to a normal weight for my height (I've weighed 43 Kg most of my adult life, but I've come to weigh about 48. Weight charts say I should weigh at least 50 Kg).

Since then I haven't really had any symptoms whatsoever of IBS, except when I eat very hot food (I'm mexican and I love salsa!!!). This means really 5 years of normal digestion, no constipation, no pain.

This has changed though... I'm now 15 weeks pregnant, and I've lost weight through morning sickness (I weigh now about 44 kg again). My symptoms have come back. Last week was terrible, every time I ate, I got really bad cramps, and sometimes I just threw up all my food (so much for gaining weight, ha???).

I've been thinking about the correlation between my low weight and my IBS symptoms. I've got the impression that whenever I loose weight, my symptoms come back. For instance, I have to get food as soon as I get hungry, otherwise I get cramps after eating, sometimes followed by vomiting. When I weigh a bit more, I can wait much longer without food, and I don't get any problems after eating.

Of course, once I'm low weight, it's really difficult to gain any weight... That's why I'm very interested in trying out this diet. I'm really concerned about keeping loosing weight because of the baby!!!

Has anyone experienced something like this???

Thanks for your help.
