Re: amount of acacia, etc. I am taking 1 rounded TBSPN both morning and evening, plus 2 Fibercon tabs aat noon. Should I increase, decrease or stay the same? Or should I switch to Benefiber? Any suggestions?
Also, the BTC diet did help with the cramping quite a lot. Ah, yes, always something to be grateful for.

I sounds like you're getting about as much SF from your SFS as I am (I'm taking 20 grams = 8 teaspoons of acacia), so I'm not going to suggest you take any more. I checked your earlier posts and I see you've been doing the Heather thing since last August 2004, so I can't suggest you just try more time on the diet. And assuming you've been taking an SFS since then, I can't suggest maybe you went up too fast on your SFS dosage. As for switching to a different SFS, I don't know. I do well on acacia and if you've been taking it since August 2004, I don't imagine it would suddenly start causing you problems.

One thing: Since it sounded like you were doing well in August 2004, this relapse might warrant a doctor's visit to see if anything has changed.

On the other hand, if you stopped following Heather's diet sometime between August 2004 and now and that's what brought back the cramps and diarrhea, then maybe you're going to have to go through the whole stabilization process again. As soon as I started following Heather's diet, my cramping got better. The urgency and frequency, though, took a while to ease and they did so pretty slowly. If you're in that "getting better but not there yet" period, time on the diet and taking an SFS may (should?) eventually do the job. And Immodium as a preventive measure can help. I took it as needed during that period, but if I had to do it over again I'd take one or two every day to keep things calm. I know I'm not going to "recover" from IBS, but I do think that the more time I spend without my gut in an uproar, the better it's able to regulate itself.

I'm sorry I can't be more helpful. Take care.
