Well, let's see...
Aunt Flo decided to arrive the morning of my coloscopy. Luckily, it was really light that day, so I didn't even wear a tampon. (Sorry if that's TMI...even for here. Hee!) I just put on a pad after it was all over. However, you can wear a tampon if you do end up with your period the same day as your coloscopy.
Anyway, I left on my socks and bra and they gave me a hospital gown to wear. They also gave me a blanket because it was coooold in there. I laid on a gurney in the test room for awhile before they got everything started. (I don't know how long exactly because I didn't have my glasses on; without my glasses, anything more than about 10 inches away is fuzzy to me.) Anyway, I remember the nurse telling me she was starting my IV and the next thing I knew, I was in the recovery area. I remember absolutley nothing of the actual procedure. My husband tells me I asked the doctor a couple coherent questions, but heck if I remember that myself! You CANNOT drive afterwards. Heck, I don't even remember most of the ride home. I was pretty out of it. I slept for a few hours after we got home and took it pretty easy that day and the following day. I ate blue Jello my prep day. I really don't care if I eat the stuff again.
I had the full roto-rooter experience (enddoscopy & colonoscopy) in one appointment, so my throat was a little sore for a day or two, but I otherwise didn't experience any pain after the procedures. Just take it easy for a couple days afterwards.
Seriously, the prep is the worst part. Unpleasant, yes. If you have the phosphosoda prep, it is one of the most vile liquids I've had the displeasure of tasting. Mix it with something you don't like bunches in the first place, because you probably won't ever want it again because of the association. I used diet 7-Up.
