I'm not sure what you mean by cleanse! Do you mean you are taking something to cause your body to eliminate or does it mean you are starving yourself, or does it mean both? Or does it mean something else?
To feel well as an IBS-C or IBS-D person, it's important to eat small meals often and to never let your tummy get empty. If I let my tummy get empty, I'm assured of an IBS attack!
I have been thin most of my life, both when I was IBS-C predominant and now that I am IBS-D. Although Heather's diet, and the need to have lots of SF staples (white rice, potatoes, white bread, etc.) with meals could cause some to gain weight, there shouldn't be a problem if you don't overeat and if you work out on a regular basis.
Actually, I've gained a couple of pounds, but not because the diet makes me gain, but because the diet has made me more stable than in the past. In the old days, I would lose the weight almost as soon as I gained it because I didn't know about Heather's diet and so I would get frequent IBS attacks and become very sick. If gaining a few pounds is the price of stability, it's well worth it, I think!
