Bananas emit ethylene gas       09/08/05 06:45 PM Edit Reply Quote Augie Reged: 10/27/04 Posts: 5807 Loc: Illinois I was reading an article in the newspaper on how to pick out produce. One of the suggestions for ripening fruit was to put the fruit in a paper bag along with a tomato or a banana. It stated that the banana and tomato emit ethylene gas , which plants use to regulate growth. If the banana and tomato emit this gas..what effect does this cause inside our body?
