I agree with the others that there are some really good soy ice creams out there. Some of it sucks. Rice ice cream personally makes me want to vomit. I love the mint choc chip Tofutti Cuties, but they do have HFCS. If you do buy an ice cream maker (I saw your question on the recipe board), I've found that chocolate or choc mint are the best flavors. I have yet to either make or buy a vanilla soy ice cream that doesn't taste like soy. If you're not sensitive to HFCS, I have a fabulous mint cookies'n'cream ice cream recipe that's low in fat that I could post over in the recipe board. My favorite DQ blizzard was always Oreo mint. Yum.
This made me think about all of those posts recently of people wondering "what food caused my attack???" ... recently I bought some hullless popcorn (which is supposed to be easier on IBSers, though still definitely IF), and I had decided to try some. Well, I knew it would be too high in fat 'cause I'd have to put around 1 T of melted margarine on it to be any good ... so I deliberately ate plain mashed-up potatoes for dinner (nothing on 'em but salt and a bit of pepper). I chickened out and didn't eat the popcorn. The next day, I had a bad attack. I realized that I would have blamed it on the popcorn if I'd eaten it -- but I had eaten NOTHING unsafe (and was not stressed or hormonal). This makes me wonder how often I blame attacks on food when they were caused by, well, the mysterious IBS Attack Fairy or whatever.
If you do decide to cheat, good luck and I hope you don't have an attack. Take an anti-spasmodic or an Immodium beforehand, though. And let us know what happens!
