Could You Take Penicillin?

Two things you might do...

1. Take the antibiotic with LOTS of (room temperature) water to wash it through your gut quickly. (Make sure you are allowed to drink water with it.)

2. See if you would be allowed to take penicillin as your antibiotic. If so, inquire about getting the penicillin injected as opposed to taking it orally (or find out if there is some other non-oral way to take penicillin or another antibiotic). I opted for penicillin injections when I had wisdom tooth surgery 15 years ago. (I had to first undergo allergy testing to ensure I wasn't allergic to penicillin because I wasn't sure if I was.)

However, be warned: penicillin injections are VERY PAINFUL -- not just during the injection, but for at least a day or two afterwards because it is injected right into a muscle in your arm or leg. (I would recommend leg.)

Despite the misery caused by the penicillin injections, I found them to be far more tolerable than the IBS misery I would have endured if I had taken the penicillin orally.
