I'm new to IBS. Everything started suddenly for me one evening in February. I thought I had a touch of flu. It never went away....I was so frightened of colon cancer. After many tests and a final colonoscopy, I was diagnosed with IBS and told by my doctor to eat 35 gms of fiber a day - other than that, no cure. He also told me that I would have to "alter" my life - ease the stresses of life. Well - that just is not going to happen.
This website and message board has been such an answer for me to the many, many questions I have not been able to find answers to. Thank you.
I have not ordered Heather's kit yet. Still trying to sort through all the information on her website. I do not want to start these changes until I have a window in my life where I can give it some attention. Hopefully in the next 2-3 weeks I can make these needed changes.
Question - when you started this "regieme", did you do it gradually as far as your foods - changing a little at a time, or just jumped in with all changes at once? I see that the fiber needs to be started slowly - just wondered about the foods and such. I am already a low-fat eater - but, have ALWAYS done 100% whole wheat and high fiber everything. That's why when my doctor sent me home saying eat a high fiber diet, I was SO confused....I was already doing that! However, I currently eat yogurt, lots of lettuce/spinach salads, fresh veggies and fruits - and when I eat breads/pastas, they are always whole wheat. So, obviously I have alot of trigger foods in my diet - and have already stopped the 100% whole wheat stuff - and stopped my coffee (a VERY hard thing to do) I have made no other changes at this point - naturally, I suffer greatly each day with terrible cramping and diahhrea.
This appears to be a wonderful place for support.
Thank you again! I have hope.
