My general question is, have any of you ever been taken to the hospital because of, or during an IBS attack? Yes! In the last ten years: Once because the D-attack wouldn't stop even with meds (a friend took me), another time because of pain so severe I couldn't breathe (during a college course field trip--ugh!), and then because the D wouldn't stop and it coincided with a panic attack and I just didn't know what to do and was worried about dehydration. I never had, until last week, one week ago today, in fact. I'm sorry to hear that. How did they treat you in the ER?
I had eaten out at IHOP, (International House of Pancakes) with a group of friends. I had pancakes, egss with cheddar on them, and mozzarella. Yes, all unsafe foods, I am sure! Not a half hour afterwards, I was nearly passing out because of the intense abdominal pain, cramps that could tear my abdomen apart, and for the first time ever, I began to throw up during the attack. I've felt very nauseous before, but never gotten sick. I'm sorry you had to go through all this pain and vomiting. After such a severe attack, I would always get an aversion to the foods I had eaten and felt were a trigger. Are you experiencing the same thing?
Boy, if I needed an incentive to eat healthy, and IBS safe, I just got one! I've been taking my acacia tummy fiber regularly now, and it's helping. I'm also trying to eat safe foods. Heather says dairy is a trigger, but it is not for me. Are there others of you who can eat dairy with no troubles? I'm lactose intolerant, but I find that even milk protein sets off an attack. How do you know dairy's not a trigger? Especially since it was a big part of the meal that sent you into such a bad attack?
Thanks for listening, and I could use some feedback, if you've got it! It sounds like you're doing the right things to get better, taking the acacia and coming to the boards for advice. I just wonder about the dairy...but it's my biggest, "no-fail" trigger so I ALWAYS wonder about dairy. I hope you're feeling better!
