I have been trying to follow the IBS diet for nearly two months now. I have eliminated red meat, dairy, most fats, and I have started eating lots of oatmeal, white bread, chicken, fish, and soy products (milk, cheese, tofu, etc.) As I continue on my quest to find relief and be healthy I have come across some startling websites about the dangers of soy products. Nothing seems to be proven one way or another, but certainly I am concerned (breast cancer and brain deterioration especially!)about their claims. Does anyone else have any information? My IBS symptoms are greatly subsiding, I beleive partially due to my consumption of soy products rather than dairy and red meat. Another thing is that the information I have read also stated that there is enough estrogen in the soy (what everyone had been raving about to relieve menopausal symptoms) to alter menstrual cycles... and guess what? Mine have been altered... of course it could be a coincidence as I am pre-menopausal, but it is making me wonder... Maybe I should switch to rice milk, nix the tofu, and just eat more chickpeas... which leads me to whole 'nother subject.... gas.... but I'll save that for later, as the soy question is utmost in my mind..
