You could try a decaf chai tea. There's one called Bengal something in tea bags, has a picture of a tiger on it (I think it's Celestial Seasonings - it's a mainstream brand). It's very sweet without any sugar added, and it's got helpful herbs. Or, buy a plain herbal (or make your own) chai with whole cloves, whole fennel seeds, broken cinnamon sticks, dried orange peel, anise seeds, allspice berries, peppercorns - any combo or all. And dried gingerroot if you can find it. Chai is really good brewed plain - I like it better sweetened, but it sure doesn'ts seem necessary.
Also - try plain anise tea (from whole anise seeds). This tastes naturally sweet, kinda like fennel, and is terrific for digestion. Very anti gas and calming.
You can brew caraway or oregano too - both very helpful GI herbs, and they don't really lend themselves to being sweetened in the first place.
Finally, what about barley malt syrup or maple syrup? Those are both completely natural sweeteners.
Best, H
