Yes, it probably would. But you'd want to be careful - just because it's herbal doesn't mean it can't cause side effects or dependency. You can get real licorice root in dried form in the bulk section of health food stores. Other than that I've only seen it in imported Scandinavian candies (and I'm with you on the taste - yecch!)
