Its actually insoluble fiber that helps move things through. Soluble just makes the texture better. Of course exercise is key though too. I have found oatmeal with banana or prunes in it, a slice of multigrain toast and a big cup of caffeinated tea with SFS in it during a LEISURELY morning always does the trick. If I get up and go in the morning and just have my cereal and tea, I NEVER go, so I have to take a day to work at home in the morning to be able to go. So mixing in a good insoluble with the soluble for C is good if you are desperate. Also, less than 10% of calories are absorbed in the colon, so it is unlikely you would be gaining weight for that reason. A little useful med school knowledge there!
