Hi Art - You'll probably find you adjust to the extra water - people usually do, so give it a try for a few weeks.

How much Metamucil are you taking? You want about 5-10 grams of soluble fiber from the supplement per day. If it's causing bloating, try something like Benefiber or Equalactin or Citrucel instead. And avoid the kinds with artificial sweeteners.

You might ask your doc about Questran - it's a prescription that binds bile acids, and is something people need if gallbladder removal triggered chronic diarrhea. This is often misdiagnosed as IBS, and if you already had IBS it can certainly worsen the problem.

Fats are what will really set off problems if you're missing your gallbladder. So the salad dressing on your Caesar could be a culprit. For IBS, the insoluble fiber from the lettuce would be a trigger as well as the fat.
