I think that what foods you can eat while traveling is best summarized in this link to Heather's book: http://www.eatingforibs.com/strategy.htm.
Most of these foods do well in travel, and allow you to create meals from them. Base everything on soluable fiber and you should be ok.
I have found that having white rice with my grilled veggies and chicken helps provide a good soluable fiber base. I also make grilled veggie sandwiches with a French bread loaf. If you're at a restaurant, ask if they have rolls. I usually stick to a grilled chicken breast, as most restaurants have them. As to have it just plain grilled, with no seaonings or oil. If I were on vacation, that would be the safest for me. Maybe discreetly carry your favorite seasoning in your purse and use it on foods you order. The food may be bland, but I would sacrifice taste while on vacation, especially if you're new to this whole diet-thing. Being sick away from home is the worst.
In a chinese restaurant you can get steamed rice and veggies, which are tasty seasoned with soy sauce.
Oh, and do a search on this topic, because I KNOW that it's been discussed before.
Hope this helps! And have fun!!!
