Hi, I am dealing with the same apparent contradiction. I tried to really increase the soluble fibers a couple weeks ago in order to get the gas under control. Before I was a psycho about only having whole grains, which I love, and am convinced that they are infinitely better for you. Since, I have been majorly C. So, I think I am switching back. The C makes me feel even worse and so bloated with trapped gas. I was definitely confused and still am a little cause white breads and all dont even list that they have any fiber. I have tried 2 kinds of white bread and hate it, it tastes like little kids food, like little debbie cakes or something! Since i have gone back to my favorite Kashi and Optimum Power Breakfast and wheat, I have gone to the bathroom, albeit with a bit of effort involved. So, I know this isnt the answer. But i guess if youre having huge gas maybe go with the soluble, but if you ahve C, go with insoluble. I think the idea also is to mix the two, like add in insoluble with soluble and that should be ok.
