In my experience, stress and anxiety can make all the symptoms of IBS worse. When you whole body is keyed up and tense, your gut is too, which makes everything in your tummy, sometimes even the gentle foods, rumble. Try taking 5 or 10 mins and closing your eyes, focusing on deep breathing and try to let the stress and anxiety go.

You can do this to calm your body and mind on the bus if you start to feel agitated. It has helped me to make it on long trips in the past. Maybe you can even bring some favorite music if you have a walkman or portable CD player. The distraction can be helpful too.
