Soy margarine is definitely real margarine (because margarine is just "butter" made from vegetable oils instead). A lot of them are vegan, but of course they're all full of fat, which means they should be used *really* sparingly. I find I can put a thin scrape on toast and I'm fine with it.

Actually, what I've started using lately is Smart Balance LIGHT... it has to be the LIGHT... it's available at the grocery store, and it's completely vegan. It's also about half the fat of traditional margarine. I still use it pretty lightly, but it's nice to not have to worry so much about using too much of it.
