Sodium and Pregnancy

My VERY pregnant SIL just shared similar news with me. She is extremely swollen all over (she also has some semi-serious kidney problems, so if her body isn't doing a good job filtering, she gets more swollen than other pregnant women). She asked her doc if she should cut down on the sodium, but the doctor reminded her that the baby needs sodium, and also told her about how sodium and potassium work together. I seem to remember from my high school bio class about the sodium/potassium pump, and that without the one, you lose the benefits of the other. Sorry I don't know more details, but just wanted to say that AC is right that a low sodium diet isn't right for everyone. I don't conciously eat low sodium, but I try to avoid excess sodium, and I generally feel fine. I don't have any health problems outside of IBS and mild asthma though, so I guess I am pretty low-maintenance.
