Hi all,
So some may remember my drama over the doctor's appointments that I was trying to figure out last week. Well, as I mentioned in that note, I managed to get an appointment with a specialist at the kaiser clinic but I was concerned b/c I knew nothing about him. So it's still looking pretty negative on getting an appointment with the "uberspecialist" as heather called him, but I'll pass on the reference for those who are interested, anyways, because I know he is an excellent doctor. His name is Martin Bashir and he works with Washington Gastroenterology in Washington, DC. I have a contact number if anyone is interested. I also went through with the appointment for the Kaiser specialist, and I should say I was pleasantly surprised. He took a detailed medical history, typing away on his computer the entire time I talked and asking questions for clarification. For his exam all he did was listen to my heart, look at my eyes and do the general poking around the abdomin to see where it hurts thing. I was glad he din't feel it necesarry to do a rectal exam the first time I saw him!!! But once he was done with all the questions, he says I do have some symptoms that are very consistent with Chron's disease, but I don't have all the symptoms that are consistent with Chron's and there could certainly be other things that are causing the problems. He sent me to the lab for blood tests for celiac, a full liver panel, thyroid panel and calcium. He also ordered a colonoscopy - oh joy! I knew he would but now it's iminent and that's scarring me! But I'm glad he's willing to do tests to get a clear diagnosis. So today I came into work and I don't remember if I mentioned this or not before, but the guy who works accross the hall from me is the brother of Dr. Bashir - which is an extreme coincidence since I work in an office of 20 and I didn't get the referral from my co-worker I got it from a freind with severe Chron's! But anyway, I asked my co-worker if he could ask his brother about the reputation of the doctor I'd seen and he said he could ask and if he's a GI specialist in the DC area, he'd know him. So he sent him an email and had an answer for me a couple hours later - my doctor at Kaiser is a reputable guy and a smart physician - so I feel even more at ease with it now. So I guess even though I'm worried about the prognosis and about going through the tests, I'm glad that it looks like I'll be getting decent care. Positives are positves and I'll take 'em where I can get 'em. Just wanted to let you guys know and for anyone who's in the area and interested, I have some info on some good doctors. Hope you all get good news soon too!
