Acacia confusion!?!?

Hi,

After reading other posts--as well as replies to a question I posted several days ago--I see that some folks are sensitive to acacia and must ramp up their dosage extremely slowly. But I'm scratching my head over two things:

1. This Website explains that acacia calms the gastrocolic reflex, meaning it reduces cramping. So why would one even need an adjustment/rampup period to begin with?

2. As little as 2 teaspoons/day of acacia gave me very unpleasant gas and cramps. Yet the equivalent amount (approx. 3 grams) soluble fiber in food form (oatmeal, etc.) doesn't mess with my tummy. So why would a supplement form of an SFS do so?

After reading several posts, I wonder if acacia and SFS are more effective and less problematic for people with D. Perhaps those with C (like me) aren't the best acacia/SFS candidates.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
salsagal

PS *In*soluble supplements help me go to the bathroom--and give me severe cramps. So they're not a viable alternative, unfortunately.
