For measurements you can get measuring cup sets I got one in Debenhams at the weekend for a fiver. The vanilla I used was vanilla essence, its with the sugars and icing in the supermarket, in a tiny little bottle (25ml) By the way I used a swiss roll tin and it worked just fine, the US tin sizes are lot different than ours too.
