Hello everyone.
First I should say thank you so much to everyone who wrote with kind words yesterday when I was SO worried about this - we all know how hard it is and the sympathy is SO appreciated! So the appointment didn't go horribly badly - as far as these appointments are concerned I suppose. She said that it appeared the absess is draining, so it doesn't have be lanced at this point - this is a good thing, no excruciating shots of lidocaine for poor little Mindy. She put me on flagyl and cipro to combat any infection in the absess and recommended lots of sits baths and easy to handle food.
She also agreed completely that I should see a specialist about this and she gave me my GI referrel. She also said I should go back to my surgeon since she was following my last case of absess - I should see her for follow up and by that time they will know whether I will need another lancing - but she thought the antibiotics had a good chance to knock it out on thier own.
The worrisome part - after her exam and her questions about my symptoms, she said it is rather rare for people who are young and healthy (I'm 27 and have no other conditions) to develop these symptoms unless they have chron's. We can't know until the colonoscopy, but she thinks it is likely. So I know many others have had these sort-of diagnosis types thrown at them, but I'm wondering, how often is it actually the case? How much different is it to deal with Chron's than it is IBS? How long could I have possibly had this and what is it doing to my body?
I have a whole new set of worries now. Well, hubby and I are driving to the other side of the state tonight, so I'll have about 4 hours in the car to talk with him about it. Again, guys, thanks for your support - I'm not sure where this will take me, but I hope the tests will at least point me somewhere and not tear my insides appart too badly in the meantime.
