it does make some folks gassy. Try Citrucel, Acacia, Equalactin - you might have to experiment to find the one you like best. Six grams is a good dose but not super high.
You can easily get plenty of protein and fat for good health while still keeping your diet safe for IBS. Skinless chicken breasts, seafood, egg whites, and soy are good protein sources. Make your fats count - monounsaturated oils like olive and canola, fatty fish, avocados - all can be incorporated in small amounts with soluble fiber to stay stable. You don't need more than 20-25% of your diet from healthy fats, and that's a pretty small amount in terms of actual volume - it's quite easy to get that amount in each meal.
