I'm vegetarian, and used to eat whole grains and salads with no problem. However, since my IBS symptoms have gone haywire I got to the point where I wanted to stop eating all-together to avoid the constant draining D. I'm skinny to begin with, so when I lose weight people really start to worry. My body wasn't getting the nutrients it needed!
I tried Heather's diet, and initally took Metamucil as a supplement. That would just grind through my system so I lowered the dose. After awhile it wasn't working at all. So after reading some of the posts here, I switched to a soluble fiber, working up to 3 grams 2 xs/day, and voila, I started having formed stools! However, along with the high-soluble diet, I started getting backed up and gassy.
Is there a point when you're ingesting too much soluble fiber? I really want to get back to whole grains and salads (I do eat a salad with french bread now and it's fine sometimes). I want to be sure that I'm getting all the nutrients I need.
I lowered the dose of the Guar Gum a smidgen so that I'd have a bowel movement, and today I had the D again. Arrgh! How discouraging!
Please help!
P.S. I saw a nutritionist and recommended Heather's book. The nutritionist said I need to have more protein in my diet, and fat to help digest it.
