Actually, medical doctors - most of whom have virtually zero training in matter of nutrition and non-prescription supplements - DON'T always know best. I worked in a hospital for years; believe me, I saw it every day. I'm lucky, my doctor know what she's talking about. And guess what? She prescribed a diet and supplements EXACTLY like what Heather recommends.
Acacia alone will not work for you. You have to eat the diet, take the supplements, exercise, drink a lot of water, and if your doctor decides you need medication, take that too. It's a package deal and a lifestyle change. Like everything else, you get out of it what you put into it.
