frozen custard causes huge gas bubble....

ok. first a little background. I had IBS-D in 1998-99 and then IBS-C starting in 2000, and relentless IBS-C in 2003 and 4. I tried the diet and it worked really well; esp. the milk elimination, which made me think I had the magic key. But, alas, the constipation the week before my period began to KILL me again (sciatica, major bloating, limited torso mobility, etc.), and I went to the doctor. (Zelnorm had worked for 6-8 weeks last year but hasn't worked since.) He said he thinks my redundant colon is mostly to blame for my serious chronic constipation, and he prescribed Miralax 2x/day instead of the usual 1x and Citrucel 4x/day instead of 3. That worked famously. And I could tolerate cheese just fine but rarely had milk. Miralax 2x worked a tiny bit too well (imagine a playdough machine that is always at the ready to pump some off each time I went to the bathroom but isn't urgent like IBS-D and isn't the consistency of D), but now I've learned to do Miralax 1/day alternating with 2/day and that seems to be a happy medium.

BUT....today I went to the frozen custard store and had a lovely "concrete" with snickers and vanilla custard. (I did this 2 weeks ago with no trouble.) This time I also ended up eating half a scoop of my daughter's that she did not finish. Within 20 minutes, i felt much pressure from beneath my diaphragm and a gas bubble forming so big that it bulged up high between my ribs and where my tummy-tuck vertical stitches begin. It's better now, nearly 3 hours later, but it's still distinctly there and hurts when I go from sitting to standing and stretch my torso out.

So are you all saying, "Doctor, doctor, it hurts when I do this!" ("then don't do that."

So back to no milk and certainly not milk and eggs whipped into custard, right? but why doesn't cheese cause this same problem? grrrrrrr.
