Irritable Bowel Syndrome Message Boards

Hello! I'm from England too and have just been researching this so hopefully I can be some help

My doctor reccommended me three soluble fibre supplements, Fybogel, Normacol and Celevac. Fybogel is made from psyllium so I would avoid this if you are at all prone to bloating or gas as it often makes it worse. I have tried Normacol and Celevac which you can get on prescription or over the counter from a pharmacy (you may have to ask them to order it though). Normacol is similar to acacia I think (it's a vegetable gum) and comes in granules which you put on your tongue and swallow with a drink. Celevac comes in tablets which you chew and swallow with water. I think it's the UK equivalent of citrucel (it's made of methylcellulose). Personally I prefer Celevac, it's really easy to take and tastes nice! They're also very gentle on the tum as they don't ferment. I've only been taking it a while but so far it seems to be helping (I'm IBS-D).

Also, if you type "normacol" or "celevac" into the search thingumy on this message board there are quite a few posts by other people who've tried them. That's what persuaded me to try Celevac!

Sorry for the long rambly post, I hope some of it's useful. If you find any of the supplements help I should ask your doctor about getting a repeat prescription, it may work out cheaper.
