Does IBS disrupt your sleep?

I've been battling insomnia for the past 15 months. My doctor recently prescribed Ambien. About a week later my gastro prescribed Zelnorm for my C and bloating. The Ambien has been working great in helping me fall asleep shortly after 10pm, but then I'm up from 4:30 a.m. either tossing and turning until my alarm goes off at 6 or having to have a BM (now that the Zelnorm) has kicked in. I'm grateful that I'm now becoming more regular but 5 a.m. is not the time I'd like to have this happen. Anyone else have this problem of being awakened by having to have a bm? Anything I can do? It's particularly inconvenient on the weekends, because I have a hard time trying to fall back asleep once I'm up then. And then I'm exhausted for the rest of the day.

I wonder how much my IBS issues have to do with my sleep issues and how I can deal with them?

Any thoughts out there?
