Irritable Bowel Syndrome Message Boards | New and 38.5 wks pregnant (repost)...

This is a repost--I was hoping to get a response. I could really use your help.

Hi! I'm new here and wasn't quite sure which board to post under. Anyway, I'm very close to my baby's due date (the 22nd)and I've been having major IBS cramps and constipation since December.I guess I should back-track and tell you that I was diagnosed(formally)with IBS about 2 years ago. The IBS flare-ups that started in December actually started with a bout of diarrhea and from then on, I've had a crampy/achy sensation in my back that radiates to my lower left side every few days or so(I also have a gassy/pressure sensation when I push on my abdomen,as well). The baby's fine--it's just me that's living with this achy pain all the time. I saw my gastro doc and she told me to take Bentyl as needed and it was ok'd by my OB as well. It helps some, but the aching, cramping feeling just keeps coming back and can be quite uncomfortable especially with all the false labor contractions I keep having. I try to eat high fiber foods, which helps sometimes, but not everytime. I also take Benefiber tabs, but not sure if I'm taking enough of them a day. I'm so afraid of going into labor with intestinal pain at the same time. Can you make any suggestions as to what I can do for the constipation? I seem to feel a bit better when my stools are softer and elimination is more complete.
