Thank you so much for you reply. I will have to find the time to post more on the board b/c I think it may be my only support system. I do not know anyone who has our problems and sometimes when IBS causes a long, bad attack, I can feel very frustrated, alone, and wonder why I cannot eat like a normal person.
It is very comforting to know that you have to take a step back with the fiber as well when you get a bad attack. I know the ideal rule is to continue taking it, but when your tummy is filled with mostly air and lack of food, you can hardly eat and are having such bad D, it is hard to stomach it. In five years, I have only had to stop the fiber two times. Once was a couple of years ago when I got the stomach flu and felt horrible for 2-3 weeks. I cannot remember how long I was off the fiber, but I also do not remember having such an extreme reaction when resuming the thereapy-even in minute doeses. I will probably start within the next couple of days with 1/2 t every other day for the first 3-4 doses, and then more if it seems ok to do so. I get brief discomfort/spasms, but I have been drinkng a lot of tea and it seems to help.
Very personal info, but I also have gone from my daily BMs to none for three days. It is amazing how quickly my body chnaged after stopping the fiber. My appetite is finally coming back, so I hope I am on my way back to feeling like myself soon.
I hope you are feeling good as well. Words of empathy can mean a lot during bad times.
