Does it matter when you practice yoga? I've been told to wait 3 hours after eating before doing my yoga. Is this true? That's really hard for me. I snack every two or three hours and I'm usually so hungry by the time I am done my yoga practice I am feeling nauseous. Help!

Hello, Yes in an ideal situation you want your belly (& your bowels) completely empty before practice. HOWEVER, having said that, this is not always possible, so do the best you can. If you'd like, have a little snack (at least) an hour or so before you practice. maybe half a bagel or a small apple/banana (whatever works for your body) so you don't feel nauseous. You will learn what you can & can't eat before practice and also when you can & can't eat it. Trial & error. I simply cannot practice with food in my belly. It makes me feel heavy, weighed down and icky. Others do Ok with a little food... so just see how it goes. Hope this helps. Let me know how it works out for you.

Thanks YogaTeacher. I usually get too hungry if I leave it that long but an hour is pretty doable. I'm consistent on 20 minutes practice a day and usually get 40. I am using the Yoga Zone DVD's. They focus on the breathing as well as a couple of different levels so that a beginner can follow along. I really like them and the poses they use aren't too difficult. I think it's helping. I always feel better when I am doing the yoga. I'm just trying to figure out how to do this when I am on holiday!
