Hi new to board and to IBS..Just love the recipes, but a lot call for egg whites and I am allergic to them. Help! want to start enjoying some foods that are gentle on my tummy.

Hi Eilene! I just checked on a food substitution chart and it said you can substitute 1 tbsp meringue powder plus 2 tbsp water for each egg white in a recipe. Otherwise there's a vegan egg replacer called Ener-G that contains no eggs whatsoever. You can learn more about that here.

I've used the vegan egg replacers before and they work pretty good. I have a friend that is vegan and I believe she told me before she would leave out eggs in recipes. I know she does that for pancakes. I don't know if it would work with everything though.

hi
A long time ago, I read that you can substitute soy powder (perhaps this is the same as soy flour?) for eggs in baking. I think you use 1/2 -1 T soy powder, add a little water so it's the consistency of eggs to make one egg.
You might want to do an internet search to make sure 1 T soy powder equals 1 egg as it's been a while since I've done this.
