Hey all, I had to go home sick this morning (flu sick not stummy sick...for once) and now I'm trying to figure out what my body wants me to eat. All I can think of is grilled cheese sammies (soy of course) and tomato soup. But I can't find is canned tomato soup is safe. Anyone online and has some knowledge of this to share with me?

I can't really answer your question but offer my thoughts. In the Eating for IBS book it says "cooked tomatoes have a very high acidity level, which can cause GI distress, so they must be eaten with care. Incorporate them into a meal with a high soluble fiber content and don't eat them on an empty stomach." So if your having some bread (your grilled cheese) it should be O.K. However, whenever I try to eat pasta with tomato sauce I regret it and am not sure if it's the tomato sauce or the wheat from the pasta (or both) that's a trigger. I am so confused about eating wheat as HelpforIBS recommends it as a stabilizer while there are so many IBS sufferers who won't touch it and feel they are better off.

I think there is no general answer to this. Acidity bothers some people but not others. The only way to find out if you can tolerate it is to try it.

Thanks everyone for your help. I might try it this weekend, just in case it is a trigger. Now the fiance has the flu, unfortunatly a different one than mine, so now I'm worried that I will get his flu in addition to mine. ARG! Is it spring yet?!?
