Heather's Sweet Cherry Almond Cake sounds yummy, but almonds are a trigger for me! What should I sub for the almonds if I want to try to make this cake? Or should I just not make it?
For those of you who don't have the recipe handy, it calles for 3/4 cup almonds, finely ground. Even finely ground in a baked item, they set me off

I might try use pecans.... but you could also try walnuts. There IS almond extract in it...right? (I don't have my book with me)

Yup, Shell, there's a teaspoon and a half of almond extract in there as well.
What if instead of nuts, I used finely ground oatmeal instead? I know it would give it a slightly different taste, but it would still give it the texture I would think, and be lower in fat. Ideas?

Is it the FAT in the nuts that bother you, or are you allergic to all tree nuts?

I can do a smidge of peanut butter, but haven't tried any nuts other than almonds. They send me straight into a nausea and D attack, even ground up and cooked in something, so I'm a little hestitant to try other nuts, so I haven't. I'm pretty fat sensitive, so I think it's that

Perhaps leave them out of the recipe altogether and just use more cherries? That's what I'd do if I were baking it for me.
