What Filipinos feed you when you're sick...

I was sick with a nasty cold this weekend and this is what they fed me. It has a filipino name but I can't remember what it is. It crossed my mind that this is the perfect type of meal for a touchy tummy. You should be able to eat this even when you're unstable.
1 skinless, boneless chicken breast, chopped into small pieces 1 tsp oil 1 small onion, finely chopped 2 tablespoons minced ginger 1 clove minced garlic 2 + cups water about 3 or 4 chicken bouillon cubes 1 cup rice salt and pepper soy sauce lemon juice
Saute the chicken and onion in the oil until cooked. Add ginger and garlic and saute until fragrant - about a minute or two. Add water and bring to a boil. Add rice and bouillon cubes. Cook until the rice is done, about 15 minutes. Add a bit more water if needed. Consistency should be soupy-stewy - a bit on the runny side. Serve in small bowls. Add salt and pepper, and soy sauce and lemon juice to taste (about a sprinkle of each).

Make it without the chicken and substitute the chicken bouillon for vegetable bouillon.

Attempting to stave off the sore throat and headache I've got from turning into something worse, I'm making this right now with some Quorn chicken tenders and veggie bouillion cubes, and no ginger since I'm out and the grocery stores around here all seem to be too
Smells yummy!

It's unfortunate that you don't have the ginger - it really settles the tummy. Do you have any ground ginger?

Nope, the ground ginger's what I'm out of, and there's was none at Whole Foods or my local grocery store. Puzzling!
Btw, I think this is my new staple when I feel icky! It was sooooooo yummy! Thanks so much, Alicia! Chased it down with some lemon zinger tea and honey, so working on feeling better ASAP!

Still a little headachey, but not as bad. Keeping up the Vitamin C drops for a few more days to be on the safe side though.

I fixed this for lunch on a lark and I love it! The ginger is a little strong for me but I can always cut down. I think I found a new favorite comfort food!
It will be a wonderful dinner for cold evenings! All three cold night a year that we have in Houston!
Thanks Alicia! This is a quick and easy recipe!

bill's uncle who lives in the phillipines is arriving in town today and we're having dinner with him tonight at my MIL's (and I think from the phone conversation he travelled with his filipino wife and child this time!)

Just made this ... very easy and it was fantastic!! The only thing is, does it have a "real" name?? I feel kinda funny telling my husband there's leftover Filipino invalid food in the fridge if he wants it.
Thanks for the recipe, Alicia!
