I'm making brownies from the Mott's website and the recipe calls for butter. What can I use for a substitute for butter? Thanks!

I have used applesauce as a substitute in cakes for butter. You might try it.

Hi The recipe already calls for a cup of applesauce. Do you think it would be ok for me to put more applesauce in place of the butter? Can I use canola oil?

Apple butter is a little thicker than applesauce, that's why I use it. You can always cut down on your liquid if you feel the recipe should be drier. I just made some chocolate chip cookies with 1/2 cup apple butter instead of 1/2 cup butter and they're GREAT!!

I'd be happy to share the recipe with you, but it's gluten free which means I used a rice flour, tapioca flour, soy flour combination, etc. instead of wheat flour. But, I imagine if you'd just replace the butter with apple butter in a regular recipe, the results should be the same. If the dough's too liquidy, just add a little more flour. The resulting taste is different than regular Toll House Cookies though, but they were wonderful to me.
