Oh my gosh... Reading that was seriously like an IBS trigger! My whole digestive system jolted!
I'm so happy for you! It's wonderful to know that there are parts of the country that still make it feasible to have a decent way of life and (gasp) a stay-at-home mom!
The house is beautiful, Casey!

What a lovely house!! I'm so jealous! My husband and I live in royal Oak (Metro Detroit-Michigan) and the prices here are just so expensive. We bought an old house also, built in 1922! Our house was part of a larger estate. It actually started off as the servants quarters! The small house next to ours was the carriage house. Before they sided it, you could still see the very large double doors on the back of it!
Our house is small, just over 1,100 sq feet. Technically, its 3 bedrooms but the bedrooms are so small we can't even fit a bed AND a dresser in one room! I use one of the bedrooms as my dressing room! Its only got ONE TINY bathroom also. We hope to expand someday but its just not in the budget. Our house cost 3 times as much as yours!!
Congratulations! How Exciting!! I just love all the stain glass!

Believe me, there's nothing Adam would like more than to put a big ole woodshed in the back... but there's no room! It's a tiny yard - half of it is deck, and half of it is landscaped.
Oh, and thanks! ![](/messageboards/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif)
By the way, we're not remodeling the kitchen. I like the retro '70s look!

Well, I don't know the history of the house specifically, but of the town - it's a mill town. The paper mill was built, in the middle of nowhere, and then a town was built to house the mill workers. Most of the town is row after parallel row of houses, all built at about the same time. (The "new" section of town is a development of small 1950s ranches... and yes, most residents still refer to it as the "new development", heh.)
The mill is barely operational now - most paper mills up here have closed - hence the dropping real estate prices. But regardless, I have a clear view of the aging mill from my back deck.
I bet you're right about the hardwood floors. And I bet there was a horsehair couch, and irons on the stairs, and a woodstove once upon a time. That addition on the right was *definitely* pretty new - we think it was a garage, but before that, it may have been a woodshed (it's on the kitchen side, and yep, the kitchen's on the back). But a farm house? Probably not. Which is ok. I still want to find out more about its history, and I'm going to try to do so once we get settled.
Alas, no goodies in the attic or basement... believe it or not, we checked the day we looked at the place!
