i got the job!
WAHOO!!!!!
they're overnighting the official offer, but she gave me the terms on the phone today. i almost missed the call- i was on my way to PT. i don't know when the start date is but it can't be soon enough!
i had said i would take the rest of the week off if i got the news, but ironically i had already taken the days. guess i just "knew!" i had notified my supervisor before i left this morning. this is good 'cause A) of course having off 'til Tuesday is great anyway but also B) the days i am taking would be "lost" if i didn't take them before my last day- which is why i wanted to take them soon.
i'm still only about a 4 physically, but i'm an 11 emotionally!
(ps: for those of you who haven't memorized the details of my life -shame on you!- this job is in publishing. it will be a training position that functions as a stepping stone to a higher supervisory position. my best friend works on the same level on the editorial side. i will be on the production side -which means the printing and more technical side. my mom also works for this company as an editor.)
when i called Angela (my best friend) she said the $$$ was impressive- that she didn't think they were going to offer that high. WAHOO!
naturally, we are headed to the bar later tonight (if Ange gets done her work early enough) to toast my good fortune (fibro be damned! i have 6 days to recover!). wonder which bartender is working tonight.....?

Gosh, I couldn't be happier for you. This is just SUPER news.
Publishing? You realize, of course, you're gonna have to learn to type capitals! HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
A little confused about giving notice. Talking to your supervisor was about taking time off this week, not about giving notice. So you didn't give notice, then? Do I understand you correctly? How long will you have to give? Two weeks? Hey, wait! Will you still be able to take off time in only 3 months for the Fall Sprawl?
Gee, this is exciting. I'm really jazzed for ya, Sugar. Publishing. I'll bet you'll meet lots of Cute Publishing Guys, eh?
Gee, Publishing. Cool.
Way cool. My Pretty WIW in Publishing. I like that.
I like that a lot.
bbB
P.S.: I can't wait 'till tomorrow morning to find out if Wild and Cute Bartender Guy is there tonight. Oh boy, maybe since it's not Friday he'll have more time to "visit" -- heh heh heh .....
Damn I'm excited!

hmm.... wonder what this button does?
WELL, NOT SURE. I'LL JUST KEEP TYPING.
YEAH, I DIDN'T GIVE NOTICE BECAUSE A) I DON'T KNOW WHEN THE START DATE IS FOR THE NEW JOB, B) I AM TERRIBLY SUPERSTITIOUS AND WOULD NEVER EVER QUIT A JOB 'TIL I HAD OFFICIALLY SIGNED ON THE DOTED LINE, AND C) I DIDN'T GET THE OFFER 'TIL 4PM AND I LEFT WORK AT 10:45. SEE? IT MAKES PERFECT SENSE! (ONCE I TELL THE WHOLE STORY. OOPS! GUESS I LEFT THAT PART OUT BEFORE! )
WELL, IN MARYLAND YOU DON'T HAVE TO GIVE 2 WEEKS NOTICE, BUT I WOULD ANYWAY BECAUSE I THINK IT'S COMMON COURTESY. I REALLLLLY DON'T WANNA THO. I KINDA WANNA SCREW THEM OVER, BUT MY MORALS WILL O'ERCOME MY NASTY STREAK.
I THINK I SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET OFF OF WORK FOR THE SPRAWL... FIRST OF ALL, I THINK I CAN GET OFF ON A FRIDAY- THEY'RE REALLY COOL THERE. ALSO, WELL... GEE, I HOPE I CAN GET OFF! THERE IS NO "ALSO." OR IF THERE WAS, THE FROG STOLE IT.
NO WORMS TONIGHT AT ALL!
(PS: DUNNO IF CB WILL BE THERE--- HE'S "A SURE THING" ON FRIDAYS BUT WE HAVE NO IDEA IF/WHEN HE WORKS OUTSIDE OF THAT, THOUGH SUPPOSEDLY HE DOES WORK ANOTHER DAY EACH WEEK.)
I'LL LET YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENS TOMORROW!!!!!

if you can stand to edit and can tolerate long long articles of incomprehensive scientific babbling, you're more than welcome, i'm sure! my mom edits a biochemical journal (Journal of Biochemical Science) and has no idea what she's editing at any time. thank god for styleguides! my best friend edits the Proceedings for the National Academy of Science. don't know what accounts i'll have, but just thankful i'm not going to be editing! (jk-- i'm a bit of a sciencce/information geek! i'll be in my element!)
anyway, come on up. love to have a friend onboard with me!

well, you tell Don someone has to keep you in line online. er.... well, what a wierd sentence!
ah, you may have worked back here and i know everyone WANTS 2 weeks, but Maryland is legally a no-notice state. you don't have to give notice, nor does your company. that's right, in MD it is legal to fire someone and have them leave IMMEDIATELY. (i used to have to do hirings/firings for my last company and that's on some of the legal paperwork for the state. not all states are like that) anyway, i forget the legal terminology, but that's the gist.
ah.
i can't believe i'm on a little vacation, bbB. not that i'm going anywhere, but it's soooo great! and to know that when i go back to that horribly boring office full of evil people i don't have to stay long, well that's just heaven!
how's the painting, going, bbB? have you heard from your contractor dudes? tell me all!

Jen is "Wild and Wacky." Also "Wild Image Woman." "Wild and Crazy Woman." Wacky WIW. I go go on forever.....
As for me, I have SOOOO many names I've forgotten them all. Bev. Bevers. Bevrs. Bevvy. BB. BBB. BBBB. bbB. It used to be "Bubble Butt" and BM for Big Mouth and Big Bad Bev and on and on ...... Knowing how much I hate the "erly" part, some wise guys have even called me Early.
My daddy had a strong Maine nasal accent; he called me "Bevlay." I loved it. Never heard it since he died.

Thanks Caryn.
I have to share a quick little fun factoid with you:
My father -- a native Mainer -- was an avid hunter. In the '40's he used to take his sleeping bag and rifle in the back woods of Maine in the middle of winter, by himself, and camp out in the snow (no sleeping bag!), waiting for a buck -- or bear.
Coincidentally, his name was Huntress -- of course my maiden name. "Huntress" is a female hunter.
With me so far?
When I was born, he wanted to name me Diana. You see, Diana was Goddess of the Hunt. A female hunter. My name would have been -- SHOULD have been -- Diana Huntress.

It sounds like even though your relationship with your mother/brothers was/is rough, its so nice to hear that you had such a special bond with your dad. I'm sure he's watching over you right now

um... it's a company that publishes scientific journals. they're big complex tomes that come out weekly, every other week, monthly, depending on the journal.
i don't have to move. it's great! the job is actually closer than the one i have now PLUS free parking (i love that part!).
ironically, when i move back out once my mom is better, i'm going to move back to downtown Baltimore, which is where my current job is. oh well! it will only be a 15 minute commute...

Ah, scientific journals. My sister and my best friend are both grad students in biology fields (biochemistry and bioengineering) so maybe I've heard of your journals.
And I don't blame you for moving back downtown... I love living in the city. We're out in the suburbs now, and while I like the cheaper housing and the yard for the doggies, nothing beats being where the action is!
