I'm just here to whine a little, just got back from the doctor and I have strep throat and an ear infection I'm so annoyed! I had to go to a walk-in clinic so it wasn't even my regular doc, and I tried giving him a quick history of my tummy trouble but he wasn't too interested.
He gave me amoxicillin, said it was the best one that he could prescribe that would work for my throat and that it shouldn't be too hard on the tummy. luckily, I usually tolerate antibiotics fairly well and haven't had a problem with amoxicillin in the past, I'm just concerned becuase I'm so unstable right now.
So, I've upped my probiotic dosage, got lots of soluble fiber soft foods as not much else goes down (thank goodness for mashed potatoes!) and we'll see how it goes. I've got my Lomotil and Tylenol 3s to help with the pain, I figure the codeine in them is constipating so maybe it'll help offset the D.
Anyone have any other suggestions? Wish me luck. I feel so crappy right now I hope they kick in soon and make me better. What next eh?

I know how you feel because I get earaches a lot. The antibiotic should make you feel better pretty soon. I always find with a sore throat it helps to drink something really hot like tea. It is so soothing. Also, gargle with warm water and salt or spray with Cloriseptic spray.
Probably the best thing now is to get into something comfy and sleep and I bet you will feel tons better in the morning.

Yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking!
My goodness, girl, you certainly have your share of bad luck. Where'd you get this strep throat and ear infection anyway?
Oh dear. Amoxycillin? I looked it up in my Drug Bible, and it says to tell your doctor if you have any kind of stomach disease, and if you have any pain, cramps, or bloating in the abdomen or stomach to call your doctor immediately.
Too bad he didn't prescribe Flagyl. I had to take it for my diverticulitis. It didn't bother my tummy at all, and totally took care of the infection. You might give it a thought if the Amoxicillin doesn't do well on your tummy.
GET BETTER!

That's just so not fair. All of us with IBS should get an exemption from things like colds and strep throats, not to mention lets see, fender benders, skinned knees, getting caught in the rain, etc. All the common aggravations of life. We put up with enough already, DAGNABIT!!
Sounds like you've got all the right stuff tho, so feel better soon, sweet pea.
