I was just reading an article about the actor Kelsey Gramar(Fraiser,Cheers)and his wife Camille. They hired a surrogate mother to carry a child to term for them because she claims she has IBS and the doctors told her she could never carry a baby to full term. I was a little surprised to read that since i have IBS and have 2 healthy children. I was just wondering if there might be any truth to that theory or maybe she just wanted to "spare her figure" and needed an excuse, since she is a former Playboy playmate. Im not saying she is lying, just seems odd to me.What do you all think?

Hmmm...IBS and not carrying a baby to term? This is definitely news to me. I also have 2 children and have never heard anything like this before. I don't think that is factual, jmo.

ya, i know she has IBS - but so what about all the moms on here who have IBS and have been pregnant? in fact, i've even heard in some cases IBS can improve a bit during pregnancy due to hormones. sounds a little fishy to me...

I've never heard of not being able to carry a baby to full term because of IBS. I have 3 children.

Maybe they have fertility problems they didn't want to talk about? Sounds a bit poohey to me. I mean, if pregnancy makes you extra ill, then I can understand being scared of it, but so many people seem to go into IBS remission when they get pregnant!

The only thing I can think of is that she's on some scary hardcore medicines for her IBS and they would hurt any babies. Other than that, none of my gastro doctors (all of whom were women) have EVER mentioned that having IBS might affect my ability to have children. I think there's something else going on, infertility issues someone's ashamed of, or like you suggested not wanting to damage her figure, or something else.
But what a harmful misleading statement to put out there. I guess it's a good thing she stopped being an IBS spokesperon. Sigh.

I can't imagine thats true! I have had IBS for 18 years and I am TRYING to get pregnant and none of my drs have said a thing about it! Must be something else going on but its terrible she would use that as an excuse.

I use my IBS as reason #47 of 9281 that I don't want to have kids, but that's about avoiding the stress of being a parent, not about getting pregnant.
