I just got an email from my doctor's office saying I need to contact them as soon as possible, and that it is important that I do so immediately as they really need to talk to me. Why do they do that? Then of course you get it when you get home from work and you can't contact them, and then you have to spend all day worrying about it. I'm so scared...of course, all sorts of bad things (i.e. cancer) are running through my mind...and I can't calm down. sorry, I'm just venting, I don't know how I'm going to wait until tomorrow to talk with them Kelly

Okay don't panic! Could be they need to do a follow up appt or just have some questions for you. Have you been there recently for some testing? Lab work? Why do doctor's office do that? If they really needed to talk to you - you think they would leave an emergency number. Any way you can leave a mssg with an answering service? This way your mind will be at ease if you can talk to someone tonight. Let us know what happens.

Oh goodness. They always make it seem so melodramatic, don't they. I hope everything goes well and that it's no big deal at all. Try to think about other things...

if it were my doctor's office doing that i would assume i had forgotten to pay my copay before i left.
doctors are melodramatic, aren't they? don't worry, sweets. (right. "don't worry"-- easy for me to say, eh?) the thing you need to keep telling yourself is that you will find out when you find out and not a minute earlier. worrying isn't going to help or fix it... it's only going to make your tummy churn! have some tea and try to breathe and meditate on... something. go to your Happy Place. think about a beautiful island full of happy puppies and naked handsome men willing to serve you or something... POSITIVE THOUGHTS ONLY! whatever it is can be dealt with, right? so stay positive and as calm as possible so you don't end up worried about your tummy too!
SMOOCHES.
if you feel like sharing when you find out what they want, we're here...

It could be lots of things. If you have had recent bloodwork you could be anemic or something. I've had them leave that type of message for anemia. Think good thoughts & we will too and let us know as soon as you find out.

Hi Kelly,
If they just sent you an e-mail it's most likely not something super serious. If it was something like that I'd imagine they'd call you at least. I know it's easier said than done, but try not to worry. When I have a situation like that I try and think of some scenarios good/bad and instead of focusing on the bad, I think how I'd deal with things. Therefore even though the chances of it being something really really bad are slim, I've still dealt with it a bit in my mind.
Oh and Jen, good work on the proper usage of 'eh'. I think we should make you an honourary Canadian

I hope everything is ok! I'm sure it will be! Good luck and try not to worry to much! Easier said than done I know. I'm a worrier and when people tell me not to worry I laugh at them....but it doesn't hurt to try. I usually end up getting distracted and then I forget to worry. Distraction is great!!

Kelly, it could be something so simple as the fact that you didn't pay your co-pay -- and my doctor charges a surcharge for all patients who leave their office without doing so! They'd call me with the same tone in their voice if I forgot.
Truly, it could be something you can't anticipate. While it sounds trite, don't panic. It'll just make your IBS worse. Curl up in bed with a nice cup of tea and a good book, and get your mind off of it. (You might consider making that tea a little stronger..... you got any sherry?)

Thanks to everyone who replied, it's so nice to have such supportive people around who can give suggestions (or at least help you calm down). I've been trying to just relax and assume it's nothing serious, although I know it's not that I didn't pay because we don't have to pay for appointments here in Canada...so we'll have to see what happens. I'm going to call them tomorrow and I'll keep you guys posted. Thanks again, it really means a lot Kelly

Hey Everyone, I heard back from the doctor today and it turns out my blood tests showed that I was anemic, so I'm breathing a sigh of relief Not saying being anemic is good, but I'm glad it wasn't something more serious. I've just posted in the Eating for IBS forum for some tips on Iron supplements and how to increase iron in my diet, but I wanted to say thanks again for everyone's kind words and reassurances. It's ironic, that nasty GI doc I saw not too long ago who refused to listen to me and do any tests other than a colonoscopy. When I asked him to do a Celiac test he said there was no point because a. I wasn't think enough (GRRRR) and b. my iron levels were fine. He was looking at blood work from 2001! I told him that and he just shrugged and said he saw no need to repeat blood work. What an idiot! Sorry, just venting Thanks again, Kelly

"MMMM Liver" "Iron helps us play" hehe, gotta love the Simpsons.
Good to hear it wasn't something really serious. My Mum has low Iron as well so she takes some Iron suppliments. Unfortunately red meat is a no no for IBS cause it's great for that. (My Mum always made sure we had lots of milk and red meat and I could never figure out why her cooking would make me sick)
Peaches I'm glad you find the Canadian spellings cool Now we just have to make the Canadian accent seem cool just like the Australian and British ones.
Step 1: get the Americans to start spelling like us Step 2: get them speaking like us Step 3: get them watching the NHL playoffs (GO LEAFS GO!!!!) Step 4: get them all wearing toques Step 5: Take over the world!
(we've already got Jen )
We just have to work on the manners of our custom's agents for Bev.

They turn bathrooms into washrooms,
miles into meters,
fahrenheit into celcius,
garbage disposals into garber-raiders,
and riverbanks into foreshores.
They're an interesting culture, EH?

They do call it pop in certain parts of the states. In my part (NJ), they call it soda. My fiance, who's from WV, calls it pop. Of course the correct term is soda!

i think they call it "pop" in the mid-west.
i just call it "coke," which infuriates the pepsi fans. (who cares? pepsi tastes yucky to me!)
here in the MidAtlantic, people refer to it as "soda."

It's Coke. Come on guys, you all know it. It's Coke. Someone comes to your house, and what do you offer them? A Coke. "Hi, Sue! Come on in -- you want a coffee, or how about a Coke?"
Sheesh! It's COKE. Get with the program.

It's definitely SODA!!! I'm from the midwest and NO ONE says pop. My aunt through marriage is from Iowa, and they call it pop, and it's SO annoying. No offense, but it sounds retarded. Also, people call all soda "coke" in Kansas City, and that's not too far from me in St. Louis. What kind of coke do you want? Coke to me means the "Coca-Cola" brand, not soda in general. This whole issue is funny

I've always referred to it as pop. "hey, wanna pop?" (although I guess that sounds like a bad pick up line)
"pop machine"
and the children's song "one bottle pop, two bottle pop, three ...."
And that's pretty much how it is for the whole country. United we stand, divided we fall

In California, at least in northern California, we call it soda/coke. I do think pop is like a midwest thing or maybe east coast (b/c the only time i've heard someone say pop was when I was on vacation on east coast and from some people I know from east coast). But maybe it depends from person to person. We could just have a universal language and call it a fizzy/bubbly drink that tingles your tongue and is loaded with sugar
